YABT successfully concludes Youth Summit on Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Youth Summit on Entrepreneurship and Innovation

As a preamble to the second edition of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas) YABT in collaboration with EAFIT University organized the Youth Summit on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which was composed of 4 panels covering: 1. Initiatives of the OAS for the youth, 2. Entrepreneurship, 3. Corporate Social Responsibility and 4. Technology and Innovation; in which the central theme was the youth, their leadership and their capacity to create companies in Latin America as a strategy to better their quality of life.

In the opening of the program, the Mayor of Medellín, Mr. Alonso Salazar Jaramillo, spoke about how important it is that the city has an event of this type; one of the central themes of their administration is the theme of entrepreneurship, with programs like Medellín Digital. "All of the youth of Medellín that have projects of entrepreneurship that permit them to better their quality of life should have the support of my administration", he added.

The Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, declared: "In Latin America one of every four young people doesn't study or work and so this assembly is a method to achieve justice and equality of opportunity". "The OAS has obligations in this field, we must look to encourage entrepreneurship", he added.

Additionally, the Permanent Representative of Colombia to the OAS, Ambassador Camilo Ospina, announced the creation of what will be the Block of Entrepreneurship. "All of the youth that have entrepreneurship projects will be able to turn to this new project that will get a 25 million dollar fund in a year", he affirmed.

The Representative of Agora Partnerships, Mr. Ricardo Terán, affirmed: "The education on investment and managerial support to entrepreneurs is the foundation in the fight against poverty".

The event was held in the EAFIT University, which was launched by the Secretary General of the OAS, H.E. José Miguel Insulza; the Ambassador of Colombia to the OAS, H.E. Camilo Ospina; the Mayor of Medellín, Mr. Alonso Salazar Jaramillo; the General Director of the Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENA), Mr. Darío Montoya and the Rector of the EAFIT University, Mr. Manuel Esteban Acevedo.
