Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) and PepsiCo are pleased to announce the Finalist Teams of the 2010 YABT & PepsiCo Eco-Challenge. Like all TIC Americas Finalists, these six (6) teams have been selected after a six-month process and rigorous competition. They will compete for two Eco-Challenge Awards during the TIC Americas Finals in Lima.
The Eco-Challenge Awards in the 2010 TIC Americas focus on creating water conservation awareness in an action-oriented program sponsored by PepsiCo to develop innovative water solutions, both educational and practical.
YABT and PepsiCo commend all the teams for their participation and their involvement in developing innovative solutions for water conservation! With so many great projects it was hard to choose only six finalists.

Eco-Challenge 1:
Develop a downloadable videogame aimed at creating public and youth awareness about water scarcity, promoting water conservation, and a sustainable use of natural resources.

Water Defense is a game in which the player has to manage resources in order to properly meet the needs of a community regarding water consumption. When the game starts the player will be presented with 3 rivers, and as the game moves along, the rivers will start getting more and more polluted. Depending on the kind of pollutant, the player will have to decide on what cleaning tools to build for the proper purification of the water. As the player starts cleaning the water, using tools based on real life techniques, the community in the game will start demanding water from the player, depending on the use for the water will be the level of purity needed from the player. As the player moves forward in the game, he will be educated on different ways of water treatments as well as on the different upgrades on water purification. |

The mayor of the city put the Water Detectives on a secret mission. For some unknown reason, the big tank of water is destroyed every night, and the city is running out of water/ Nobody knows who could be behind this, so the Water Detectives have to find who is responsible, and impede more waste of water. |

There is a boy who has to help protect the short amount of water that the city has. The boy finds G-Compass, and when he figures out the way it works, the spirit of water –who is dying because of pollution- emerges. The spirit assigns the boy a set of missions to protect it and clean the rivers of the city. The objective of the game is to clean the river and prevent more waste of water. |
Eco-Challenge 2:
Develop an innovative and viable solution to provide safe drinking water to communities which lack access to a source of clean / potable water.

The project emphasizes in the appropriate use of sustainable technologies through two technologies: Purification Train; that will be implemented in community centers during emergency situations, in which the innovation is the versatility and portability of the filter. The second technology is the Sand Filter for homes, which is developed by cannibalism between micro-organisms and in that way, it guarantees secure water. |

“From the cloud to the cup” collects rain water by using the roofs, taking it to a storage tank through paths with filters to retain thick solids. After this, it is conducted to filters made of wax, which deposits the potable water in a storage tank with a tap that allows the people from the city to safely drink that water. |
